Summer Term: Week 5

I couldn’t help but smile last Saturday afternoon as I strolled into the Playroom with Mrs Tomsett and our children to be met by the boarders who were dressed in a variety of outfits! Our son, Harvey, looked up at me and said, ‘Daddy, why are they dressed in funny clothing?’ to which I had to reply that we were in fact attending the Boarders’ ‘Really Weird Tea Party’! The dress code was the weirder the better and as you will see from the photos in the gallery, the boarders didn’t disappoint. The party was overseen by Miss Lozano but it was the boarders who organised themselves into teams to put the party together. One team baked Victoria sponges while another prepared sandwiches and snacks and the remaining three groups decorated the Playroom, sorted the music playlist and organised fun games for everyone to play. Miss Lozano wrote, ‘The children need to be praised for how well they organised themselves into teams in order to put the party together on their own. We all had a brilliant time laughing at each other’s awful fashion styles!’

On Sunday, the boarders headed for Bushy Wood, the first Sunday trip to a venue that they had been allowed to take since October and they were thrilled. The activities included archery, team building challenges, pioneering and shelter building.

On Wednesday, a number of the boarders represented the school competitively for their first time, travelling to Great Walstead to play in a cricket fixture. I was delighted to watch as I was umpiring on the neighbouring pitch and, as you can imagine, there was quite a bit of noise reverberating around the fields as the boarders enthusiastically supported each other!

Many of the boarders have started engaging in some timely revision ahead of their upcoming assessments and, over the next week, we will be ensuring that we are balancing their revision and recreational time to ensure we are supporting their wellbeing.

This weekend is shaping up nicely. Mrs Radley is organising a pamper party for Saturday and on Sunday Mr Ghammache is taking the boarders indoor climbing.

Congratulations to Lucie Carle, this week’s recipient of Tommo’s Trophy, for making a huge effort to integrate with everyone in the St Andrew’s Prep community.
