Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Following the lock-down order from the government on Wednesday 25 March, the Eastbourne College charity has implemented strict access measures.

Eastbourne College is now on full lock down while St Andrew’s Prep remains open only for the children of key workers. Thank you to all those staff involved.

If you wish to contact St Andrew’s Prep, please call 01323 733203 or contact Eastbourne College on 01323 452300.

We understand that this is a very difficult time for our whole school community and we want to reassure you that we are handling all concerns from pupils and their families with the utmost care and sensitivity. We are encouraging any pupils who may be concerned to talk to members of our Welfare Management Team, including form teachers and tutors, heads of department and our school listener.

While ensuring minimal disruption to your child’s(ren)’s education, we are following the guidelines and directives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Public Health England, the BSA,  and IAPS and doing everything asked of us to mitigate the possibilities of the virus spreading.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us;

ST ANDREW’S PREP PRESS RELEASE

Coronavirus: latest update 18/03/2020

Following the stricter line taken by the Prime Minister in his press conference on Monday 16 March, specifically the rules on locking down households if anyone has symptoms and the concern that this may soon be applied to pupils in School boarding houses, the decision has been taken by Eastbourne College Incorporated (ECi, comprising Eastbourne College and St Andrew’s Prep) to ask all boarding pupils to make arrangements to leave and return home as soon as possible; boarding houses will remain open until 6.00pm on Wednesday 18 March. The headmasters of the Schools released a joint letter to all parents today.

‘It is with great regret that we are taking measures that will heighten anxiety but difficult times call for us to make the decisions that best protect our pupils and the rest of the community. Thank you for your support with our approach.’
Tom Lawson and Gareth Jones

Minibuses stand by to help pupils with transportation and the ECi schools will conduct a deep clean of the boarding houses, following the advice of Public Health England.

We would like to take this opportunity to reassure everyone that pupils and staff at ECi schools remain a low risk as individuals, and that there are no confirmed cases of Covid-19 recorded at either of the ECi schools, or any confirmed cases of those connected with the schools at the present time. ECi medical staff and school leaders continue to work with local healthcare professionals to actively monitor pupils (and where possible those connected with them) and staff.

The ECi Critical Incident Team (CITECi) continue to meet daily – to evaluate the dynamic situation, taking the necessary steps to safeguard the continued education for those in our care.

The Deputy Heads (Academic) of both schools released details earlier in the week about how the school would carry out distance learning should it be required at a later date.
