Autumn Term: Week 12

It was wonderful to see the children back in school this week. Their enthusiasm and happiness about being back in school was delightful to see. They recounted their enjoyment of the many wonderful acts that performed at the St Andrew’s Day Show last Friday. It won’t be too long before they will be able to perform in the show!

Christmas has arrived in the Pre-Prep, with decorations galore. Happily this hasn’t proved too much of a distraction from the hard work the children have been doing this week.

The children in Year 2 have started to get into the festive spirit. They hid chocolates in the forest and gave clues to each other as to where there were hidden. They also attended a Santa drawing tutorial and handwriting practice, ready for writing their Christmas cards. A very enjoyable week for all.

It has been a busy week with plenty of creative flair in Year 1. Activities ranged from painting on canvases, making handprints in Andy Warhol style and a clay workshop with Mrs Starr, to name just a few. The children have shown such adaptability, as many of the class are working from home. They have enjoyed seeing each other via Teams and have shown great collaboration; Mrs Bates and Mrs Reed couldn’t be prouder. The class are looking forward to performing their Nativity.

The Reception children continued learning about different celebrations, with their focus being Christmas. They started by bringing festive cheer, as they decorated the Casson tree whilst sporting Santa and reindeer hats. They delved into the true meaning of Christmas by learning all about the Nativity, ahead of their own next week. The children looked at the story in depth by re-creating it with figures and hay in the tuff spot. They created their own Nativity scenes whilst practicing their cutting skills and indeed listening to the story. In the phonics lessons, the children revised the ee and or phonemes, whilst pretending to be the donkey, as well as being introduced to two new digraphs: oa and ar. In maths, the children explored advent calendars with the language and concept of time. Miss Maynard was so sad to not be at school this week, however Mrs Cracknell and Miss Hewitt told her how hard the children have worked and all about their lovely week. Hoorah for, and thank you to, Mrs Cracknell and Miss Hewitt.
