TOM GREGORY APPOINTED NEW HEADMASTER OF ST ANDREW’S PREP

Chairman of Governors, Philip Broadley, is delighted to announce that, after a very thorough consultation and interview process, Tom Gregory has been appointed as the new Headmaster of St Andrew’s Prep. Mr Gregory succeeds Gareth Jones and will take up his post from September 2021.

Mr Gregory started his career in the City of London working in Investment Banking. After ten years he followed his heart and moved into teaching, immediately finding his vocation. He has held senior roles in various schools over the last thirteen years, including Deputy Head at Vinehall and his current position as the Deputy Head at Ashfold School.

St Andrew’s Prep and Eastbourne are familiar territory for Mr Gregory. As a former pupil at both St Andrew’s Prep and Eastbourne College, he knows first-hand the schools’ sense of family and community.

Joining Mr Gregory in his move will be his wife Esther and children, Maisie (10) and Herbie (8). Mrs Gregory has a long standing 23-year teaching career in both senior and prep schools.

Mr Gregory will be working closely with Mr Jones and the team over the course of next term to ensure a seamless transition. He is excited about the new role and is looking forward to getting started.

“I am both delighted and honoured to be the next Head at St Andrew’s Prep. It is a school with an outstanding reputation and its recent developments have shown it to be both innovative and forward thinking. The school today is much changed from the school I attended but remains firmly the same with regards to its ethos. The pride and passion for the school was clear to see from all staff and pupils that I met, something I share completely. Esther and I are excited to be joining the school community and I look forward to working with staff, pupils and parents to shape the exciting future of the school.”

The team involved in the appointment of Mr Gregory were very impressed by him and believe he is the perfect fit for St Andrew’s Prep.

Mr Gregory will report to Tom Lawson, Headmaster at Eastbourne College who said, “I have known Tom Gregory for some time as an impressive and high-flying senior prep school figure, known for his hard work and attention to detail. His thoughtful, human approach to bringing out the best in young people chimes with the values of St Andrew’s Prep and the charity as a whole. He has a deep and abiding love for both schools as well as the wide experience needed to take a fresh look at the opportunities and challenges of the coming years. I have no doubt that under Tom and Esther’s care, the pupils, staff and parents will see St Andrew’s Prep build on its great strengths and move to the next level. I cannot wait to welcome them to our community.”

Guidelines permitting, the school hopes Mr Gregory will meet as many pupils, parents, prospective parents and staff as possible when he visits the School next term.

St Andrew’s Prep and Eastbourne College have worked closely for a number of years, amalgamating to form one charity in 2010.
