Transition from Pre-Prep to Prep

Stepping up with confidence

The Pre-Prep pupils join the Prep School Junior department fully prepared, independent, confident and excited to meet the new challenges awaiting them in their new environment. We achieve this by creating opportunities for children in Year 1 and above to have regular contact with the Junior Department teachers. In addition to the joint Pre-Prep and Junior Chapel assemblies, the Year 2 children join the Year 3 trip to Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre. Here, the two year groups are mixed together in small groups and get to know each other ahead of the start of the new academic year when they will form the new Juniors Department.

In the last week of the Summer term, all year groups take part in a ‘Moving Up Day’. The Year 2 children spend time with their new teachers in their new classrooms and enjoy the activities so much, they often say they would like to return the following day…  a true sign that they feel secure and that the transition to the Junior department will be a seamless one.

A sense of continuity is engendered through the House system. When a child joins the school they also join one of the school’s four Houses and remain in the same House until they leave the school. If the child has a sibling at the school or their parent is an Old Androvian, they may well enter the same House.
