French Language Assistant

Eastbourne College seeks to appoint a fluent French speaker to help pupils to develop their oral fluency in preparation for public examinations (GCSE and A level). The right person will have a marvellous opportunity to work in a stimulating environment, where resources, buildings, colleagues and pupils all strengthen the process of learning.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Educated to good degree standard (or equivalent) in French or a closely related discipline
  • Knowledge of current affairs linked to French-speaking countries
  • Native-level fluency in French
  • Excellent written skills in French
  • Excellent knowledge of French Grammar
  • The ability to encourage pupils and develop confidence
  • Organised and able to prioritise workload
  • Interested in French language, history, culture and literature
  • Flexible
  • An inclusive manner and the ability to work in a team

This is a fixed-term contract for the period 13 September 2021 to 13 May 2022.

Applicants must have a UK passport, EU settlement rights, or the right to work in the UK (e.g. ancestry visa).

Salary: £7,312 for the period of the fixed-term contract (based on the British Council salary scale for Language Assistants which is currently £914.05 per month).

You will be expected to work during term time only and normally for 12 hours per week. The number of hours / lessons is to be reviewed each academic term in line with pupil requirements and by agreement with the Head of Modern Languages.

Graduate Debater in Residence

Eastbourne College Incorporated (ECi or ‘the Charity’) seeks to appoint a recent graduate to provide inspiration and enrichment to pupils’ learning through debating, public speaking, model united nations, and other academic enrichment activities. The right person will have a unique opportunity to work in a stimulating environment where resources, buildings, colleagues and pupils all strengthen the process of teaching and learning.

The Charity comprises St Andrew’s Prep, ages 7-13, and Eastbourne College, ages 13-18, co-ed day and boarding schools.

The Charity seeks to appoint an inspirational and energetic graduate to bring innovation and further enrichment to the school’s debating and public speaking. The appointee will lead the delivery of debating, model united nations and public speaking across the two schools, including coaching and preparing the teams for national competitions.

In addition the post-holder will also help support the teaching staff with academic extension activities of curriculum subjects as best fits their skills and interests, and advise pupils on preparing for US university admission. There will be an opportunity to take a role in the sporting life of the school, as desired. It is expected that the successful applicant will bring their own talents, skills, ideas and interests to develop and enrich the educational experience for our boys and girls.

The role will also involve pastoral duties within a boarding house, which will include some evenings and some weekends.

The post would suit someone looking to apply their skills in a new context, providing fresh opportunities for reflection, research, presentation and leadership. The successful candidate will have the ability to nurture pupils’ oracy while communicating enthusiasm and arousing curiosity through their inspirational support and guidance.

The post would be particularly suitable for those wishing to gain experience of working within high-performing departments in preparation for further study, those considering teaching, or those from abroad wishing to experience life in Europe. Accommodation will be provided within a furnished and equipped flat (including bedding and towels); (Shared) use of a school car (with automatic transmission) will allow for social and personal visits, as well as travel to and from school events; plus a generous allowance.

ADMISSIONS ASSISTANT (12-MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

Eastbourne College is looking to employ a top administrator into our admissions team. The enrolment of talented and engaging pupils is at the forefront of what we do and we are looking for someone who wants to be a part of a busy, fun and customer-focused team.

The Admissions Assistant will provide excellent customer service and a high level of administrative skill in the day-to-day management of enrolling new pupils to our school. Ability to juggle varying tasks and be a positive and friendly member of a frontline team will be key.

Previous administrative and/or customer service experience is essential and experience in the independent school sector would be advantageous.
