World Book Day 2026
St Andrew’s Prep embraced the spirit of World Book Day this year as pupils and staff arrived in a wonderful mix of costumes inspired by their favourite stories. Sherlock Holmes enjoyed a break time snack with the Spice Girls, dinosaurs played football with Spider Man and our headmaster, dressed as Mr Bunce from the Fantastic Mr Fox for the day, even found a few Where’s Wallys.
The celebration continued with book-themed activities throughout the day. Pupils settled into extended tutor time for some dedicated reading, while Reception baked their own Gruffalo Crumble. Our catering team added to the celebration with a delicious themed lunch menu featuring Supertato potatoes, bananas from Gary’s Banana Drama and Snow White’s apple pie for dessert.
In the days leading up to World Book Day, we were fortunate to welcome best‑selling author, performer, poet, magician and puppeteer Nick Toczek. Nick has been writing since childhood and had poems published while a teenager. With more than sixty books and over fifty thousand performances across forty countries, he brought a wealth of experience and a touch of magic to every session. From Nursery to Pre‑Prep, pupils were captivated by his tricks and poems. In the middles and seniors, he shared the craft behind his writing and the simple techniques that make a rhyme work.
It was an excellent week celebrating the power of storytelling and the joy of reading.
