2019 National IAPS swimming championships

St Andrew’s Prep was well represented at the 2019 National IAPS swimming championships over the weekend, a tremendous task in itself as the swimmers represented the best of the 4,634 competitors from 285 schools around the country. Staged in the impressive, world-class 2012 Olympic pool at the London Aquatic Centre, in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, our team revelled in the atmosphere, and swam quite superbly against tough competition, breaking numerous PBs on the day.

Competing in the girls’ U12 front crawl relay, our team comprising Hannah, Anya, Mila, Sophie and Tiggy (Res) took a jaw-dropping seven seconds off their previous PB and finished in tenth place; six places higher than qualification. The girls’ U13 front crawl relay team comprising Armani, Kirsty, Ella, Sophie and Nancy (Res) also crushed their PB, taking 4.5 seconds off their time and finishing in 12th place, seven places higher than qualification.  Meanwhile, in individual events, Armani finished 6th in the U13 50m breast stroke and Mark came 14th in his U10 25m backstroke event.

And to top it off, Tom Daley, 2012 Olympic medallist and former number one in the FINA World Aquatics Championships Diving rankings, was practising in the diving pool!

Very many congratulations to the team and their coaches.
