Girls 1st Team Finish 4th Overall at IAPS National Finals
1st Team Girls delivered a tremendous day of hockey at the IAPS National Finals hosted at Wellington College, showcasing quality, determination and superb teamwork throughout. Making this the fourth year running at the National Finals, the girls opened the tournament with a competitive 1–1 draw against St John’s, creating multiple chances and showing early composure under pressure. From there, the girls built momentum brilliantly. A sharp and disciplined 3–0 win over Junior King’s set the tone, before an excellent 2–0 victory against All Hallows secured top spot in the group with confident, flowing hockey.
In the quarter-final, the team produced one of their standout performances of the season. Against Wellington Prep, they pressed high, dominated possession, and took their opportunities clinically to book a well-earned place in the semi-finals.
The semi-final clash with The Dragon proved to be a thrilling and fiercely contested match. The girls matched their opponents in all areas and showed outstanding resilience, but a narrow defeat meant they moved into the playoff for third place. They competed brilliantly to the very end, ultimately finishing 4th in the country. a truly exceptional achievement at a national tournament.
This group of players gave absolutely everything for one another, showing courage, composure, and a level of commitment that epitomises 1st team sport at Andrew’s. Their work rate was relentless, their team spirit unbreakable, and their hockey full of ambition and belief. To finish as the 4th best prep school in the country is a remarkable milestone and a reflection of months of hard work. Huge thanks must go to Mr Hill and Miss Rogerson for their outstanding coaching, guidance, and dedication in shaping such a formidable team. The girls represented the school with immense pride and have written themselves into its sporting history. Well done, girls!
