Eco Day at St Andrew’s Prep with MP Josh Babarinde

St Andrew’s Prep celebrated a vibrant and inspiring Eco Day, filled with activities designed to educate and motivate our pupils to care for the planet. The day was packed with hands-on experiences, including beach cleans, planting seeds in the boat garden, and pond dipping in the woodland classroom. These activities gave our pupils the chance to connect with nature and learn about the importance of sustainability in a fun and interactive way.

A special highlight of the day was the visit from Josh Babarinde, MP for Eastbourne, who grew up on Meads Street. Josh joined our passionate Eco Committee to discuss topics like sustainability and cycle paths. Together, they explored ways to create greener, more cycle-friendly communities. Josh’s visit provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to engage in real-world discussions on the future of our planet.

Throughout the day, pupils embraced the opportunity to reflect on how they can make a positive difference, whether through everyday actions like reducing waste or larger-scale initiatives. The activities and conversations underscored the core values we aim to nurture at St Andrew’s: kindness, honesty, excellence, and a commitment to making a positive impact.

Headmaster Tom Gregory said, “I couldn’t be prouder of our first school Eco Day. The pupils’ energy, creativity, and commitment to sustainability were inspiring. A highlight was welcoming Josh Babarinde, Eastbourne MP, who met our Eco Committee and engaged with the children. Events like this show that real change begins with young minds and caring hearts.”

Eco Day was a wonderful reminder that small actions can have a big effect. We are incredibly proud of how our pupils are embracing sustainability and taking steps to care for the environment. This day not only inspired them to think about the future but also empowered them to take action today for a greener tomorrow.
