Eastbourne College and St Andrew’s Prep are part of the same Charity and share a commitment to providing a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for every child. Throughout this page, references to “the Charity” relate to both schools and reflect our shared approach to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Safeguarding is fundamental to everything we do across the Charity. We are committed to providing an environment in which children feel safe, supported and able to realise their full potential.

Creating and maintaining a safe environment is a shared responsibility. Everyone connected with the Charity, including staff, volunteers, governors, parents, families and pupils, has a role to play in promoting children’s wellbeing and protecting them from harm.

We take a whole-Charity approach to safeguarding, embedding it in our culture, policies and everyday practice. This helps ensure that the welfare of children remains central to every decision we make and every action we take. We have clear processes for raising concerns and are committed to ensuring that every concern is listened to, taken seriously and responded to appropriately. How to raise a concern or seek advice?

We are committed to ensuring that all safeguarding concerns are handled promptly, appropriately and in line with our safeguarding procedures. Whether you are a pupil, parent, member of staff or visitor – we encourage you to raise any concerns you may have. The guidance below will help ensure your concern is directed to the most appropriate person.

Governance and oversight

The Board of Governors plays a vital role in ensuring that safeguarding remains a priority across the Charity. Working closely with school leaders and safeguarding teams, the Board provides oversight and assurance to ensure that effective safeguarding arrangements are in place and that the welfare of every child is protected.

Governors are responsible for ensuring that the Charity meets its safeguarding obligations and maintains the highest standards of care. This includes overseeing safeguarding policies and procedures, monitoring compliance with statutory requirements, supporting safe recruitment practices and ensuring that staff receive appropriate safeguarding training.

Through regular review and scrutiny, the Board helps to ensure that safeguarding is embedded in the Charity’s decision-making, policies and day-to-day practice.
