Summer Term: Week 1

At the beginning of each term we often welcome new boarders into Colstocks. As a result of our tailor-made summer programmes, we have already welcomed new boarders from France and Spain and within the next fortnight we will be welcoming two sisters from South Korea as well.

The start of the term was like no other as we opened our doors early to host six boarders who made use of our quarantine provision during the Easter holidays to ensure they could attend school from the first day of term. The children had a very pleasant time in the House and made use of the school grounds and I would like to say thank you to all of the staff who volunteered their time to supervise them throughout the week.

By Monday evening the House was buzzing with excitement as the boarders were reunited with each other. I am always amazed by our returning and new boarders’ resilience as they slip effortlessly into the House routines as though they have already spent many years with us. And, I am heartened and impressed by their social skills and the ease with which they are able to form friendships with children from different cultures.

As we start to experience a taste of normality as restrictions begin to lift, my hope is that we will soon be able start enjoying our Sunday trips programme once again. However, for this weekend, Mr Reed will be taking the new boarders on a tour of Eastbourne during Saturday afternoon and in the evening the House will come together for a movie night. On Sunday morning the boarders will be relaxing in school and catching up with family and friends and I know they’ll enjoy the local scenery with a walk on the Downs in the afternoon.
