Primary Schools Olympic Challenge 2019

Yesterday we welcomed children from four local prep schools to join our Year 5 pupils for a fun-filled day of sport at our Primary Schools Olympic Challenge.

The children tried different sporting challenges in hockey, Rugby fives, basketball and croquet and received inspirational training from GB Olympian hockey player, Rob Hill, as well as a National Rugby Fives champion and a number of St Andrew’s Prep sports staff. The children all improved their existing skills markedly, especially in the sports they had never tried before.

Following their morning of training, the children enjoyed a well-deserved BBQ which recharged their batteries before they headed for the field to experience a St Andrew’s Prep team decathlon.  Congratulations to the yellow team who claimed victory though all children were presented with a gold, silver or bronze certificate. The enthusiasm of all those who took part was infectious and they all showed dedication and resilience throughout the day, despite the rain showers!

A large number of the children commented on how much they had enjoyed discovering new sports, working on their techniques with professional coaches and being a part of a team with children from other schools. The burgers and hot dogs went down well too!
