St Andrew’s Prep comes together to mark the end of the academic year

St Andrew’s Prep has marked the close of the academic year with a poignant Valedictory Chapel Service for our Year 8 pupils, followed by a somewhat windswept but much-enjoyed celebratory tea party on the field. It was a special moment for the whole school community to come together, reflect and bid farewell to a year group that has played an important role in school life.

While Prize Giving ceremonies for younger pupils took place on site, the Prep School’s Speech Day was held at the Congress Theatre. Headmaster Tom Gregory, took the opportunity to applaud the achievements of the Year 8 pupils who won 26 scholarships across the disciplines to their onward schools and the sports teams that represented the school in five different sports at national level. He also thanked the staff who were responsible for an outstanding inspection and, together with Chair of Governors, Nicky Eckert and guest speaker Katya Goodwin – an Old Eastbournian who is working towards her PhD in Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College, London – he celebrated the commitment and achievements of every pupil across the school.

Speeches from our Head Boys and Girls Obie, Giorgia, Lennon, Olivia, Taylor and Katie stood out as especially memorable as they reflected on their time at St Andrew’s and offered encouragement to those still on their journey.

The day also provided a moment to reflect on the continued success of the Blue Sky Bursaries Appeal and the generosity shown during our first-ever Giving Day by families past and present and the wider school community.

After a delicious buffet on Eastbourne College’s College Field, Speech Day drew to a close.

Thank you to pupils and staff for all you have contributed this year and to those who are leaving us we wish you every success and happiness as you take your next steps.
