Autumn Term: Week 6

The boarders thoroughly enjoyed last Sunday’s paintballing trip. Dressed in military uniform, armed with low impact paintballing guns and harbouring a seemingly unlimited amount of paintballs, they engaged in a number of team and individual battles and were full of exciting stories on their return to the House.

Paintball fun for our boarders last weekend

The benefits of boarding include the amazing opportunities to participate in our extensive activities programme. Many of them rise early for early-morning sports clubs and all of them take part in the after-school and Saturday morning activities. In addition, we also have our own after-supper boarding activities which all ensure that there is plenty on offer for the residents of Colstocks throughout the evening. The boarders are also able to enjoy downtime if they prefer on certain evenings as we know striking a balance between activity and leisure is important.

While our boarding activities are very popular amongst the boarders, another real highlight for many of them is ‘Wednesday evening Noodle Night!’ They enjoy a variety of noodles and (confession!) I enjoy wandering around the dining room with an empty plate to sample them too!

I have been contacted by a large number of families asking when we will be re-opening our flexi-boarding provision. A team of us got together last week to discuss the possibility but it was sadly decided that, given the current situation with virus numbers increasing (though they remain very low indeed in Eastbourne) we feel that it is appropriate at this time.

However, we are aware that some families rely on our boarding provision in order for their child(ren) to access our early morning sports provision and after-school activity options and so, in order to meet the needs of these families, while balancing out the need for consistency of personnel in the House, we are putting forward a reduced weekly rate which will stay in place until we are in a position to re-open flexi boarding. This rate will be based on children staying Monday to Friday inclusive and returning home after activities on Saturday. If this is something that interests you, please do get in contact and I will be able to discuss prices with you. I would also like to take this opportunity to assure you that we are aiming to re-open our flexi boarding provision as soon as possible.

This weekend the boarders will enjoy some downtime at school throughout Saturday afternoon and on Sunday Mrs Ford is accompanying them to Branching Out Adventures where they will be taking part in an afternoon of outdoor activities.

Congratulation to Kyle Tsawayo, this week’s recipient of Tommo’s Trophy, for being an all-round ‘good egg’.
