World Book Day 2018

St Andrew's Prep book dayChildren and staff at St Andrew’s Prep have celebrated World Book Day today. Everyone dressed up to bring their favourite literary characters to life with costumes including Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, numerous superheroes, pirates and footballers. Our parents’ costume-making skills have been outstanding once again.

Each year group visited the library to share their love of books and collected a free book token and a sponsorship card as part of the Readathon scheme. The children have set reading targets, with some of them aiming to read a whole book in a two week period and others choosing to read a novel of a different genre or a newspaper. The Readathon scheme also helps to provide books to children’s wards in hospitals around the country.

The younger children spent the afternoon immersed in the story of the Gruffalo. They followed clues in a hunt to track signs of the different characters from the Gruffalo story before sitting down to listen to the book while they refuelled on yummy treats.  And on the subject of food, the kitchen also got in on the Book Day act with a number of famous characters making an appearance in amongst the food displays.

Members of staff did not disappoint either with some impressive outfits including Alice in Wonderland and Dennis the Menace and even Pingu. The Headmaster turned into Sherlock Holmes today and inspected his pupils’ work very closely with his magnifying glass.
