Welcome to our Library
The Library is situated in the heart of the school, providing a warm and relaxing environment for our pupils (and staff) of all ages. There are books and magazines for everyone: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, Barrington Stoke titles for the more reluctant or dyslexic readers, and comics and junior newspapers.
Being able to read and to enjoy reading is not just crucial for a child’s education and well being; good reading skills are essential for every aspect of our lives and, to encourage this, our Library is an ever-growing resource for our school community with new titles added on a regular basis to ensure the children have access to up to date information and current titles on a huge range of topics that are relevant to their development. Reading lists are available for year groups which help support, stimulate and inspire our pupils’ learning and development. The Library is a place for research and discussion and where critical thinking, communication and collaborative skills are encouraged and nurtured. It is a place for storytelling and listening, author visits and private study, a space where our pupils discover a world of imagination and knowledge and at break times a social hub for board games, reading and work.
Our large multilingual section of the library provides the opportunity for our pupils to read in different languages. This is available to all children with books suitable for Pre-prep ages to Year 8. Books are currently available in Cantonese, Mandarin, Italian, French, German, Polish, Korean, Ukrainian, Turkish, Russian, and Spanish.
The school has a team of pupil librarians. Their knowledge and kindness help others to find books to enjoy or to locate reference books if needed for research projects. With new titles arriving throughout the year, there is always something different to choose from.

A library newsletter, Talking Books with Mrs Garrett, is sent out monthly to all pupils, parents and staff which helps to promote new books in the Library along with other suggestions for reading. Book reviews and recommendations written by the children and staff are a regular feature and the newsletter will also bring the school community up to date with events that the Library is involved in.
But, the Library is not just a place to read in and work; it is also a haven of peace and calm for anyone who wants a little time out from the busy world. The children know they can come and rest within a homely and friendly space away from the challenges of modern day life.
