Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
Developing self-aware children who can manage their own feelings
At St Andrew’s Prep, our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) programme helps pupils develop essential life skills. Through PSHE, children learn social, emotional, and behavioural strategies that promote resilience, emotional health, and well-being. This holistic approach ensures every pupil grows into a balanced, self-aware, and socially responsible individual.
Why PSHE Matters
PSHE is a vital part of the curriculum because it equips pupils with the tools they need to navigate life confidently. From understanding healthy relationships to managing emotions and making informed decisions, PSHE fosters independence and empathy.
How We Teach PSHE
Teaching is based around the idea of protective learning, encouraging children to make sensible decisions based upon positive self-esteem and awareness of their connections to the world around them. Lessons encourage pupils to enquire, question, discuss, evaluate, share, challenge and debate. Learning is made accessible and fun using a variety of teaching methods and activities, including pair and group work, drama, and role play. Where subject material is sensitive, special care is taken to ensure children can access what they need to know in a safe and supportive environment.
