St Andrew’s Prep and the Great War

St Andrews prep remembranceOur pupils have been moved and absorbed by the topic of the Great War and the forthcoming 100 year anniversary of Armistice Day.

Today, the school held a moving Remembrance service in the chapel where 96 boys and staff who lost their lives in the great war are commemorated.  Col Anthony Lamb MBE DL, Deputy Head at Eastbourne College and Iraq war veteran spoke movingly and passionately about our responsibility to remember and look after all those in the armed forces who return and, of course, to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

In the classroom, the children’s activities have included learning about the significance of the poppy worn to show respect and support for the Armed Forces community of the past and present; studied powerful war poetry and written their own poems and prayers; created beautiful paintings, poppies and wreaths; learnt the history of the Last Post and the Cenotaph and made a giant collage of a poppy and poppy biscuits.
